Q. What is GloTell®?
A. GloTell® is an additive to anhydrous ammonia formulated to serve as
a marking agent, leak detector and theft deterrent with the intended
purpose of controlling the utilization of anhydrous ammonia in the
manufacturing of methamphetamine. GloTell® is a burgundy colored
organic additive, which changes to light yellow when introduced into
liquid ammonia. When released into the atmosphere, all objects coming
in contact with the liquid component of the GloTell® treated anhydrous
are stained a pink-purple (pink) florescent color. Low concentrations
of GloTell® are detectable utilizing a UV light, thus permitting
detection of persons who have come in contact with the treated
anhydrous. GloTell® acts as a leak detector, staining tanks, hoses,
valves and fittings where anhydrous is leaking. GloTell® interrupts the
methamphetamine manufacturing process by rendering the final product
useless thus staining the final materials as well as all the
instruments used in the process a pink color.
Q. How permanent is the staining? (Is it easily washed off?)
A. The characteristic pink color of GloTell® will last 3 to 7 days or
more, depending on the weather, sun, rain, and temperature. Most of the
stain can be washed off with aggressive washing. GloTell® will stain
almost any object, including glass, steel, wood, plastic, painted
surfaces, clothing, carpeting, and household utensils.
Q. After the visible staining is removed can GloTell® still be detected?
A. Detection of even trace amounts of GloTell® can be enhanced by use of the UV lighting.
Q. Will GloTell® accumulate in the soil after years of repeated use?
A. Based on the typical application rates of anhydrous ammonia, GloTell® concentrations have been calculated to range between 1 and 3
parts per billion (PPB). GloTell® will biodegrade in the soil. However,
this process is dependent on many variables, including soil moisture,
temperature, pH, and microbial action. GloTell® will start to break
down within 1 to 2 days after application, into environmental friendly
elements Nitrogen, Oxygen, Hydrogen, Carbon, Sodium and Chlorine.
Q. Does GloTell® affect the safety of handling anhydrous ammonia?
A. Anhydrous ammonia must always be handled with caution in accordance
with safe handling procedures. GloTell® does make anhydrous ammonia
systems safer by marking leaks in valves, hoses and fittings thereby
reducing potential risks.
Q. What was the result of testing GloTell® in farm applicators and storage equipment?
A. Leaks, faulty valves, fittings, gauges, lines and hoses became
immediately detectable for easy repair. GloTell® is non-corrosive. All
storage, transfer, and application equipment operated without
modification and without any damage or impairment to the equipment.
Q. Is GloTell® a hazardous substance?
A. No. GloTell® is not carcinogenic or toxic. It is environmentally
friendly. When injected into the soil as part of the anhydrous ammonia,
it begins to break down within 24 to 48 hours.
Q. How effective is GloTell® in reducing the manufacturing of illegal meth?
A. GloTell® is marketed as an anhydrous ammonia marking agent, leak
detector and theft deterrent. Many farm and retail distribution sites
have participated in GloTell® trial studies over the past two years.
When consistently used, GloTell® stops reoccurring theft from main
storage tanks, transports and nurse tanks. Based on these field trials, GloTell® has proven it stops the theft of anhydrous ammonia.
Q. How can interested parties obtain product or product information?
A. Information on GloTell® can be obtained by calling 1-866-786-7638 and by visiting our website http://www.GloTell.com/
Q. How will handlers of anhydrous at retail sites be affected if GloTell® stains them? Will that cause trouble with law enforcement?
A. When used in accordance to label directions, safe-handling
procedures and with proper personal protection equipment (PPE), farm
and retail personnel are not stained by GloTell® when handling
anhydrous ammonia during normal applications.
Q. What about cross-contamination concerning transporters?
A. Many tests were performed at sites where GloTell® was used. No
transport contamination was found when proper procedures were followed.
